Henry Donaldson was the son of Moses Donaldson and Marilla Palmer and the husband of Phoebe Catherine Wannamaker. He was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1840. A year later he moved with his family to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He lived there during his first ten years. His father Moses died 1847 in Milwaukee. In the 1850's Henry's mother, Marilla, took her children back to live in Ontario, Canada.
