Moses Donaldson was the son of Altamont Donaldson and Anna Richards and the husband of Marilla Palmer (1808CAN-aft1861CAN). He was born 'Moses Danielson.' His father, brothers, and cousins changed the name to 'Donaldson' in 1833, believing it to be the original family surname back in 1600's Scotland.

His brothers, Richard, Altamont, Jr. and Frederick emigrated from the U.S. to Ontario, CAN, about 1818. Younger brother Moses followed his brothers several years later and all the brothers stayed in Canada until about 1840.

Moses married in Canada. About 1838 Moses moved with his family to early frontier Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In "Pioneer History of Milwaukee" he was described as a 'great hunter' who spent the winter of 1839 engaged in cutting timber from a quarter of what later was Ferny-Brae (Whitefish Bay just north of Milwaukee). Moses died in 1847, first being buried in a small private Milwaukee cemetery. Then when the city of Milwaukee opened the large Forest Home Cemetery in 1850 small plots were closed and Moses was reburied in Forest Home. No marker.
Note: This Moses should not be confused with another unrelated Moses Donaldson who lived in Bedford, Huntingdon County, PA.
