US Congressman. After serving as a Captain in the Confederate Army, he was a Georgia state representative (1863-1865, 1868-1872, 1886-1889, and 1896-1904). In between those terms, he was a US Representative from Georgia (1873-1874). He also served as the Clerk of the House of Representatives (1874-1882 and 1891-1895).
