John Rice Kemp, 78, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and devoted friend of many, left this life Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, to start his new life with his Lord and Savior. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
John R. was born Nov. 20, 1932, in Abilene. He graduated from Carter-Riverside High School in Fort Worth. He was a successful salesman with unique and unparalleled optimism, wisdom and wit. He loved to tell stories to his family, young and old. The true "John R" stories entertained and made them laugh. He always had a "Plan B" for business and personal ventures. John R. represented honesty and integrity with a positive attitude that will carry those that believed in his way, to a better life. He loved the Lord and his family with all his heart and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. John R. was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Roy A. Kemp and Alcie O.; brother, Troy A. Kemp; and sister, Joy K. Barker.
Survivors: Son, Wesley A. Kemp; daughter, Donna Kemp Thorpe; grandchildren, Randall F. Lindsey, John Roy Kemp, Moses D. Kemp, Angela B. Waller, Julia D. Vandergriff, Jacob R. Vandergriff; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
