JOHN BUGG's will, Mecklenburg Co., VA., 1801, Will Book 4, pp. 262-264, names his wife LUCY (PENNINGTON); eleven of his children: Benjamin, Zacharia, John, William, Jessie, son-in-law, John Nance, Frances, Marris (Mary?), Martha,Sarah, Elizabeth, Lucy.


In some published pedigrees, there's a Nancy and Rebekah listed, but these records do not list Elizabeth or Lucy as JOHN and LUCY's children.

In the Name of God Amen. I JOHN BUGG of Mecklenburg County do appoint and ordain this to be my last will and Testament.


ITEM I lend to my beloved wife LUCY during her life in lien and in bar of dower one feather and furniture and one Negro woman named Nanny and in case the said Negro Nanny should die before my wife I lend to my wife one other which ever she may choose for and during the term ofher life.


ITEM I lend to my beloved wife during her widowhood and no longer the land and plantation whereon I now live containing three hundred and eighty seven acres more or less together with the rest of my estate of every description except the residue of hereafter mentioned.


ITEM I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin a tract of land lying on Mitchells Branch in Mecklenburg containing two hundred acres more or less to him and his heirs forever.


ITEM I give and bequeath to my Son ZACHARIAH all that part of the land I bought of INGRAM which lies on the east side of Traylors Creek estimated at two hundred acres more or less to him and his Heirs forever.


ITEM I give and bequeath to my Son JOHN a tract of land lying on Taylors Creek adjoining the land of DANIEL Cheatham,JAMES Lett, ISAAC HICKS and ROBERT NANCE containing one hundred and seventy acres more or less to him and his heirs forever.


ITEM I give and bequeath to my son WILLIAM a tract of land lying on the west side of the south fork of Taylors Creek it being part of the land I bought of INGRAM containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less to him and his heirs forever.


ITEM I give and bequeath to my son JESSIE the land & plantation whereon I now live containing three hundred and eighty seven acres more or less to him and his heirs forever but he is not to have possession of the same until my wife marries or dies.


ITEM I give & bequeath to my son in law JOHN NANCE a parcel of land formerly a part of the tract I now live on containing twelve acres more or less and bounded as followeth that is to say Beginning at DANIEL CHEATHAMS line on Dukes old road thence new choped line along the said road to Nance's line thence along his line to Cheathams line thence along the said Cheathams line to the Beginning to him and his heirs forever.


ITEM my will and desire that my land on Bennitts branch in Brunswick County may be sold Immediately after my death upon a reasonable credit and that the money arising from such sale shall be equally divided amongst all my Daughters now living and my Executors hereafter named are hereby Impowered to convey the same in fee simple to the Purchaser

or Purchasors.


ITEM I will and desire that at the death or marriage of my wife that all the Estate of every description which I have lent to her except the land and in case of her marriage except also the feather bed with its furniture and the negroe lent during her life shall be sold and that the money arising from such sale shall be equally divided amongst all my children now living both sons & daughters deducting from the parts of such of them as I have already made advances to the sums herefore given that is to say deducting from my Daughter MARRIES part the sum of one hundred and ten pounds from my Daughter FRANCES part fifty pounds from my son BENJAMINS part one hundred pounds from

my Daughter MARTHAS part forty pounds from my Daughter SARAH'S part forty pounds from Daughter ELIZABETHS part forty pounds from my Daughter LUCYS part forty pounds and from my son JOHNS part forty pounds these being the sums heretofore advanced by me to each of the above named Respectively.


ITEM I will and desire that each of my children now single may when ever they marry receive the Sum of forty pounds to be paid out of that part of my Estate lent to my wife and that the said Sum of forty pounds shall upon a final division of my Estate to be deducted out of the part or parts of such child or children as may so receive the same.


ITEM I will and desire that the whole of whatever part of my Estate or the proceeds of it as may fall to the share of my Daughter MARTHA shall remain in the hands of my Executors hereafter named so long as her present husband shall live and at his death her part of my Estate is to be by them delivered to her or in case of her dying before him

my Executors are hereby required and Impowered to divide her part of my Estate equally amongst such children as she may leave.


Lastly I appoint my beloved wife LUCY my son ZACHARIAH my son JOHN and DANIEL DALY to execute this my last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have herewith set my and fixed my Seal this 30th day of January one thousand eight hundred and one.

At a Court held for Mecklenburg County the 13th day of April 1801.


This writing was produced to the Court without the name of the decedent or any witness being thereto subscribed whereupon HENRY PENNINGTON, WILLIAM LADD and JESSIE OSLING were sworn and severally deposed that they were present at the time the said decedent attempted to sign the said writing but was unable to write his name that after

the said decedent had made the marks which appear opposite the seal he did acknowledge the same to be his last will and testament and thereupon the said writing was ordered to be recorded as and for the last will and testament of the said JOHN BUGG deceasad and on the motion of LUCY BUGG the Executix JOHN BUGG and DANIEL DALY two of the Executors therein named who made oath thereto & together with HENRY

PENNINGTON JOHN DALY, DAVID PENNINGTON and JOHN HUBBARD their securities entered into and acknowledged them bond in the penalty of ten thousand dollars conditioned as the Law directs Certificate was granted them for attaining a probat thereof in due form liberty being received for the other Executors therein named to join in the probat when he shall think fit.

The Gee Cemetery in Turkey Neck Bend Monroe Co., Ky. It is setting on the land now owned by John Evans. To find it: After you cross the ferry at Thompkinsville, KY it is the 1st black top road to the (L), go to the first farm (John Evans) on the left.


We found the grave stones of Wm. J. Gee b. 2-13-1822 & d. 1-30-1885 on his (r) was Mary A. Gee (presumed to be his wife) b.8-16-1832 & d. 5-6-1914 and Mary E. Gee, daughter of W.J. Gee.


We also found John B. b.6/20/1801 & d. 5-20-1778 and his wife, Anna, b. 3-1-1799 & d. 8-14-1848 and on his left, Sarah E. Gee (probably daughter) b. 11-23-1832 & d. 6-28-77.


We assume the two men were the "Jefferson" (Wm. J.) and John Bugg (John B.) who's graves we found (?) to be brothers of our ancestor, James Pennington Gee (son of James and Lucy Bugg Gee). There were at least four Gee stones.

Lucy is the daughter of John Bugg. It was James and Lucy Gee that moved from Mecklenburg Co., VA to Kentucky.


On June 12, 1994, we found (at least part) of the Gee farm. A Mr. Orville Lanham bought 278 acres of what was called the "old Gee place." We found the Gee cemetary at Turkey Neck Bend (on the banks of the Cumberland River, in Monroe Co.,Ky, on 6-12-94.) We had looked for it five years earlier. Donna Hall (Sadlier) had told us about trying

to find it, years earlier.

Jan 31, 1769 from Benjamin Ingram of Brunswick Co., to John Bugg of the Parish of St. James in M, for 50 pounds, a certain tract of about 350 acres of land in St. James Parish and M and bounded by Heus on Taylor Cr. Twitty, a new line, Pennington, Mize , the same being granted to John Ingram, his "farther". Signed - Benjamin Ingram.

Bugg, Pennington and Gee families all living in the same area. Looks like our Pennington's didn't know how to write their names, or else they were too old to do more than make a mark. Since Lucy Pennington married John Bugg in 1754, by 1769 the William and Mary Pennington were getting up in years.


The only will located so far is the one where John Bugg and Lucy Pennington Bugg have 11 children and Lucy Bugg is named. John Bugg was the one who signed the paper for his daughter Lucy Bugg to marry James Gee.

The only will located so far is the one where John Bugg and Lucy Pennington Bugg have 11 children and Lucy Bugg is named. John Bugg was the one who signed the paper for his daughter Lucy Bugg to marry James Gee.
