Rites Pending For Sister of Late Sheriff

Miss Margaret Whitworth Flournoy, 85, of the Town House Apts., member of pioneer Caddo Parish family and sister of the late veteran Caddo Parish Sheriff J. Howell Flournoy, died at 12:45 p.m. Monday at Gowen Geriatorium following a brief illness.

Born at Forest Park, the family plantation at Greenwood, Miss Flournoy had lived in Shreveport for the past 75 years. She was a member of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Miss Flournoy was retired as executive secretary to the president of Standard Oil Co. of Louisiana.

Survivors include three nieces, Mrs. Walter E. Patterson of Shreveport, Mrs. Frank X. Hodges of Tehran, Iran, and Mrs. Clara Gay of New Orleans; and a nephew, Robert H. Flournoy of Shreveport.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Osborn Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Margaret Whitworth Flournoy, 85, of the Town House Apts., who died Monday at the Gowen Geriatorium following a brief illness, will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Osborn Funeral Home chapel.

Miss Flournoy, sister of the late Caddo Parish Sheriff J. Howell Flournoy and daughter of another Caddo sheriff, the late J. Pat Flournoy, graduated from Draughton's Business College in 1900, after which she became a public stenographer. She later worked in the campaign office of N. C. Blanchard when he ran for governor. Miss Flournoy later worked in the law office of John C. Pugh.

In 1916, Miss Flournoy went to work for Dr. T. P. Lloyd, medical director of the Louisiana State Life Insurance Co. Two years later she returned to work for Judge Pugh, who was then general counsel for the Standard Oil Co. of Louisiana.

Miss Flournoy retired in 1940 after 22 years
