Death Takes Pioneer of This Community Mrs. Bernadine Meyer, 85, Dies October 7 in Norfork Hospital.
Funeral Services were held Saturday Morning for Mrs. Bernadine Meyer, 85, resident of this community for over a half century, who died early Thursday in a Norfork hospital following a lengthy illness.
Rev., Herman Kaup at St., Frances Church conducted the last rites with interment in the catholic cemetery.
A native of Holland, Mrs. Meyer came to America with her husband in 1886 and in 1890, they came to Randolph where they continued to farm until their retirement in 1914. Mr. Meyer died in 1933, and Mrs. Meyer continued to live here, spending last winter in Creighton at the home of her son, John Meyer.
Bernadine Engelen was born May 30, 1858, at Bergh, Holland, and her marriage to Henry Meyer took place in that country in April, 1880. In 1886 they came to America, first setting in Carroll Iowa.
In 1891 they moved to Randolph and lived on a farm here until their retirement in 1914 which they came to town to reside. Mrs. Meyer had been in failing health for over a year, and was taken September 6 to a Norfolk hospital where she had since been in a critical condition.
Surviving are her sons, Ben of Magnet, H. W. of Randolph, John of Creighton, F. C. of Omaha; and her daughters, Mrs. Mary Atherton of Osmond, Mrs. Margaret Havorka of Hastings, and Mrs. Frances Hickel of South Sioux city; 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Three children preceded her in death, two dying in infancy, and a son, Peter, dying 16 years ago.
Casket bearers at the funeral were six grandsons and the Secord Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer Quietly Celebrate Important Life Event
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer, Randolph citizens for 39 years, celebrated in a quiet way last week their golden wedding. They were married April 14, 1880, at Ulft, Holland. In 1886 they came to america and settled at Carroll, Iowa, engaging in farming. In 1891 they moved to Randolph and bought the home place two miles north of Randolph, now farmed by E. G. Atherton. Here they lived about 24 years, retiring from active farm work and moving to Randolph 15 years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Meyer now enjoy their garden and chickens, and both are quite active for their years. Mr. Meyer is 79, and Mrs. Meyer 72.
Mr. and Mrs. Meyer are the parents of ten children, seven of them living. They are: Ben, Henry, Mrs. E. G. Atherton, Mrs. Joe Havorka, and Mrs. Earl Hickel, of Randolph; John, of Creighton; and F. C. of Omaha. A son, Peter, died three years ago at Hugo, Colorado, and two died in infancy. They also have 24 grandchildren.
As several members of the family are indisposed at the present time, the family gathering has been postponed until a later date.
