Engineer for Pennsylvania Raiilroad, died at age 49. Married Orpha Bain in Lancaster Co, circa 1850, with whom he had 7 children. His oldest son, Cyrus, was executor of his estate.

Obituary from Daily Local News, West Chester, Chester County, PA; Dec. 10, 1877

NIXON- In West Chester, on the 8th inst., John Nixon, in the 50th year of his age.

The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend his funeral from his late residence, No. 99, East Market Street, on Thursday, December 13th, 1877, leave the house at 2 o'clock, p.m., to proceed to Greenmount Cemetery. Also Columbia Lodge, No 286, F. and A.M., Uppowoc Tribe, No.47, Imporved O. of R. M. and West Philadelphia Division, No. 45, B. of L. E.

"Affliction sore long time he bore,
Physicians were in vain,
Till God saw fit to call him home,
and ease him of his pain.

Dearest wife and children, I've gone to rest
From pain and sorrow free,
God orders all things for the best,
He'll guide and comfort thee."
