Charles Dudley Swasey died yesterday at the Mary Fletcher hospital following a four day illness, having had an operation on Saturday, he was born in Morristown Nov. 10, 1865 the son of Samuel and Laura Rich Swasey. He was educated in the public schools there and was graduated from the Montpelier seminary. Mr. Swasey was for many years in the granite manufacturing business in Barre. From 1911 to 1934 he was manager of the Union Granite Company here in Waterbury. In 1891 he married Clara Keith of East Hardwick and in the marriage there were eight children born. Mrs. Swasey died in 1921. There are surviving one daughter four sons and eight grandchildren. Paul of Fredericksburg Va., Mrs. John Clark of Glenfield N.Y., Dr. Carroll Swasey of Batavia, N.Y., Richard Swasey of Boston and Alton Swasey of New York City and brother George of Raymond, Washington, and sister Nellie Robinson of Calais. In 1922 Mr. Swasey was married to Mrs. Della LeBaron who survives. She has been in ill health for the past year and a half but is much improved in the last few months. The deceased was a active and faithful member of the Congregational church. He was a member of the K. of P. of Barre, the Winooski lodge, F. and A. M., president of the village, trustee of the village, and an active worker in the Democratic party. He was a man of unusual character and a most respected citizen. Funeral services will be held at the Congregational church on Sat., at two o'clock.
