Ethel was a violinist and remained a maiden lady until later in life. In 1900, at the age of sixteen she was enumerated in the household of her parents. By 1910, she was a music teacher still living at home with her parents. In 1920 and again in 1930, she was still single and teaching violin from the home of her parents. She later married an elderly celllist Ellis Boyden Porter with whom she was buried. They were only married for a short time before he died in 1937.
