Married Anthony Metcalf, April 1853, in St. Louis, Missouri by Elder Orson Pratt, on their way to Salt Lake Valley.
Children - Emma Metcalf, Mary Ellen Metcalf, Anthony George Metcalf, William David Metcalf, Charles Heber Metcalf, Eliza Agnes Metcalf, Margaret Jane Metcalf, Robert Metcalf, Ida Metcalf, Frank Metcalf, Sarah Metcalf
History - Anthony Metcalf was born on 11 December 1827 in Yorkshire, England. He was named after his father, Anthony Metcalf. His mother was Margaret Phreason. He immigrated to this country from England in 1853.
While en route from England to America he met and became acquainted onboard ship to Mary Ann Reeder. She was born 15 January 1835 in Linstead, Suffolk County, England, the
daughter of David Reeder and Lydia Balls.
They were married in 1853 in St. Louis, Missouri, while en route to Salt Lake City, Utah. They resided in Salt Lake for about 2 years. It was here that their first child was born in 1854; a baby girl by the name of Emma. Sadness soon entered their home when Emma died at only a few months old. Some months later, Anthony and Mary Ann moved north to Brigham City, Utah. Several other children were born to
this couple while residing in Brigham City.
They came with the first company of pioneers who came to settle in Hyde Park. They obtained a small acreage of land and built their home. This first home in Hyde Park was a dugout with a thatched roof to shelter them from the cold winds and winter weather until better housing could be arranged for. The dugout was located near the road that runs east into Hyde Park near the spring. They remained in Hyde Park for a number of years, and the remainder of their family was born here, making a total of 11 children.
Anthony got a longing to homestead on a dry farm and they moved to Malad, Idaho where their family lived the remainder of their days. Anthony lived to be 61 years old, while Mary lived to the age of 81. They are both buried in Malad, Idaho.
