Mary Jane Roop Altizer, 69, a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011. She was a graduate of Auburn High School and a member of Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Altizer retired after 34 years from Virginia Tech as an administrative assistant. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy Roop and Marvin Roop. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth A. Altizer; son, Keith Altizer, of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Christina and Fred Saunders, of Christiansburg; and sisters-inlaw, Helen Roop, of Riner, and Marguerite Mills, of Germany. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 19, 2011, from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, Christiansburg, Va., with Dr. Don Makin officiating.
