Saturday in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Navigator on a B-24, Lieut Galloway was killed on April 9, 1944 when his plane crashed near Norfolk, England, while on an operational flight.

Born in Gainesville TX, June 15, 1918, he came to Oklahoma City with his parents at the age of 10. After graduating from Central High School, he worked four years for Southern Pacific Railway Co in California.

He joined the Army in 1940 and trained with the engineers at Pendleton, Oregon. Transferred to the Air Corps, he attended navigator's school at Hondo airfield, TX. He was commissioned there and went to England in Oct 1943 for duty with the 8th airforce. He had completed 13 combat missions at the time of his death.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs Gertrude B Galloway; a sister, Kathryn Galloway, both of the home; a brother, R V Galloway of Topeka KS; and another sister, Mrs T R Bressie, 3415 S Durland. Arrangements are by Hahn Funeral Home.

Notes: Lt. John W. Galloway was Killed in action April 9 1944 ( The date on the grave marker and this memorial is incorrect.) His ship "The Might of the Eight" was Piloted by Lt Glen Reese. The accident occurred at 7000 feet on the mission to Tutow Germany. The mid air collision occurred with a plane from another group during division assembly (392BG). Lieutenant Galloway lost his life along with 9 other crew members. There were 2 survivors from Reese's plane and 2 survivors from the 392nd plane.
The 389th BG loses two aircraft on this mission. One is lost to flak, and one to a mid-air collision.

Lt. Galloway was not an original Vaughan/Reese crew member. Captain Pietrangelo had been promoted to group navigator in late March 1944 and Lt. Galloway replaced him with the Vaughan/Reese crew either on a temporary or permanent basis.
