At the time of the birth of all their children, Stephen and Anna were living at House #17 in Bubendorf, in the parish of Pilgersdorf (Pörgölény, Vas, Hungary).

Only 5 of their 10 children lived to join their parents for their immigration to the United States.

Stephen and Anna (Buerger or Burger) Baumgartner left Hungary and arrived in the US in June of 1889 aboard the ship Munchen arriving at Baltimore.

With them they had their children Mary, John, Anna, and Elizabeth. They were coming to join their eldest son Frank, who had arrived 3 years prior to settle in the area of Fingal, ND.

Stephen and Anna purchased land in Springvale Township of Barnes County, ND (SE quarter of 139N 056W Section 023) and a home in Tower City.

At the age of 62, on June 23, 1901 Stephen tragically died when he was struck by lightening through his house window in Tower City, ND. He is buried at OLD Holy Trinity Cemetery 5 miles northeast of Fingal, ND in Springvale Township.
