Larned -- Armella Schmidtberger, 89, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Larned Health Care Center. She was born Jan. 23, 1914, in Victoria to Anton F. and Anna Marie (Brungardt) Dreiling.

She married Edwin Schmidtberger on April 28, 1936, in Gorham. He died April 28, 1986.

She was a homemaker and lived in Gorham until moving to Larned in 1983. She was a former member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, Gorham, and a member of the St. Charles Circle Daughters of Isabella, Gorham. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Larned.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley VonFeldt, Larned, and Lillian Zufelt, Boulder, Colo.; a brother, Virgil Dreiling, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Bertha Herman, Hays; four grandchildren, Richard VonFeldt, James VonFeldt, Douglas VonFeldt and Scott Zufelt; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Lee Schmidtberger, a great-grandson, Bradley Allan VonFeldt, two brothers, Harry and Ott Dreiling, and two sisters, Josephine Bolinger and Laura Jacobs.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Gorham. A Gorham Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 7:30 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 8 p.m. today at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at the mortuary and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church.
