Ralph Wendell Brown, 84, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Cottonwood. He was born at home on Aug. 21, 1925, to Ansgar Brown and Clara (Wren) Brown in Big Horse Canyon near Kooskia.

He began working at age 16 for the U.S. Forest Service and then went into logging at age 18. Forty-four years later, he retired to spend more time doing the hobbies he enjoyed.

Ralph was an avid hunter and fisherman. Woodworking and playing pool were lifelong passions. He liked square dancing and loved music. If he wasn't singing a song, you would find him picking out a tune on the piano, guitar, violin, or harmonica.
He was a past member of the Idaho County Sheriff's Posse, Back Country Horsemen, and Clearwater Grange.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Lloyd, Everett, Arthur, and baby Leslie; sisters Lucy, Nita, Opal, Cleo, Muriel, Violet, and Nellie; and grandson Jack Miller.

His greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children Pearl and Chuck; Wendell and Traci; Judy and John; Steve and Jody; Carrie and Jack; Andy and Sherry; and Dave, 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at the Tahoe Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday, with a covered-dish meal to follow at the Big Cedar Schoolhouse.
