The death of R. S. Henthorn, a Civil War veteran and a respected citizen occurred Tuesday afternoon at the family residence on Park St. after an illness.
Mr. Henthorn was 76 years old and had served with distinction in the Civil War on the Union side and his death removed another of the scattering of G.A.R. veterans in Parkersburg. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a man of excellent qualities whose death is regretted by a wide circle of friends. He is survived by his wife and 1 son Ivan Henthorn of New Martinsville. Two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Tice and Mrs. Gertrude Backman of this city and by 4 stepchildren-Mrs. G. V. Rowlin, Miss Martha Morlan and Fred and Clyde Morlan all of Parkersburg also 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. One of the daughters Mrs. Gertrude Backman who has been visiting in McKeesport, Pa. and is expected here this evening.
