As of 2023, Henry's parents are undocumented. However, the Ancestry Thru Lines® database has linked commonly shared dna of 9 to 24 centimorgans from tested descendants of Henry, with at least 33 tested descendants of Jacob Blessing II's & Anna Magdalena Traut's children: Phillip, George I, Barbara and Solomon; whose other known children were Susanna Marie, Heinrich, Jacob III, John, Catherine and Abraham. Of the 33 tested descendants, 17 are those of George I, although his probate record does not acknowledge this Henry as a son or beneficiary.

In 1814, at age 17, Henry Blessing enlisted as a "substitute for David Spielman", then served as a private under Capt Henry Lowry, in Lieut. Col. John Ragan's First Regiment of the Maryland Militia. David Spielman may have been the same as listed/living five households from Henry Blessing in the 1830 Washington Co., MD census. He also may have been the same David Spielman , or father of the David Spielman that was noted marrying Mary Ellen Blessing, 11 May/Aug 1853, In Washington Co MD, by Rev. Unruh.

Initially, Henry's pension file stated he had enlisted on 24 Aug 1814, then served until

13 Oct 1814, which coincides with the Battle of Bladensburg, Maryland, which opened the route for the British to invade Washington D.C. Henry was likely present during the United States victory of Sep 1814, over the British at the Battle of Baltimore. After the war was over, Henry had received at least one land warrant for 40 acres that was likely sold off for cash.

Henry's second wife's request for a widower pension was originally rejected for cause of insufficient service time (51 days served vs. 60 day requirement). It was later proved by his draft records and affidavits, Henry originally entered service on 1 Jun 1814, thus serving more than the minimum 60 day requirement. This clarification then enabled Ann Maria to receive a widower's pension of $12 a month. The entire 40 page pension application is available online for downloading at the National Archives website.

• 19 Apr 1818: Washington Co MD, Henry married Hannah Zeigler, aka Sigler.

Hannah b. ca. 1800; d. (25) Feb 1854 (pension filing affidavit for 2nd wife, Ann Maria).

• 14 Jun 1831: Washington Co. Maryland Equity Court Abstracts; Equity (Book 2, 556-).

Henry Blessing vs. William Boone, for petition of title. George Boone - a 1st cousin, once removed of the explorer Daniel Boone, had sold to Henry Blessing, a lot on Sharpsburg Street in Boonesborough, with yearly payments. Monies had been paid in full, but deed wasn't conveyed before George Boone's death in 1824, and George's wife's death in 1825, leaving 14 children.

• 1860: Henry's occupation is listed as "mason" in the Boonsboro, Washington Co. MD census, where there's also a 15 year old named John Thomas, living with Henry's family and Henry's second wife and their two children.

A Blessing - Thomas marriage record exists from Washington Co MD, dated 9 Nov 1822, between Christian Blessing (son of George Blessing I & Julianna Easterday) who married Mary Ann Thomas on 9 Nov 1822 in Washington Co. The John Thomas living with Henry's family in 1860, gives circumstantial weight to the possibility Henry Blessing's father was the same father as Christian Blessing's father or Henry's father was a brother to Christian Blessing's father - George Blessing I.

A 2nd Blessing - Thomas marriage record exists from Frederick Co MD, dated 4 Oct 1825, between Neri Blessing (son of George Blessing I & Julianna Easterday) who married Mary Thomas, aka Margaret, on 29 Sep 1828, in Frederick Co, furthering the theory Henry Blessing's parents were the same as Neri and Christian Blessing's parents, or Henry's father was a brother to Christian Blessing's father - George Blessing I.

Henry Blessing, Jacob Myers, John Stemple were chair-makers in Sharpsburg District: History of Western Maryland Including Biographical Sketches 1968 Vol. 2, p. 1262.
