The Arlington Sun noted on 22 June 1917 that she had “returned to St. Olaf Hospital…after visiting three weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Madsen. Miss Nora and Miss Evelyn Peterson have spent a number of years at St. Olaf Hospital and are now graduate nurses.”

At the time of the 1920 census, she was working in Manhattan, New York City, at the Woman’s Hospital. She worked in Manhattan for around ten years.

Nora returned from New York when her father became ill and provided nursing services for him. After her father’s death, she remained in Arlington and provided private nursing services for people near Arlington and Brookings for a number of years. She is noted as caring for her grandmother in Luck, Wisconsin, who passed away in June, 1918; uncle Jorgen Damn (1940), nephew Hartman Hinderaker who died of scarlet fever in 1933 and C.L. She married Clinton P. (C.P.) Swift on April 7, 1948, in Arlington, South Dakota. C.P Swift was an esteemed local banker. Nora and Clinton moved to Sacramento, California, in 1954 after Clinton retired. In 1957, C.P. Swift suffered a severe stroke; however, he recovered well from that one according to the newspaper. They returned to Arlington in May, 1959, when they returned to Arlington and planned to build a new home.
