GEORGE BERRY, 90, DIES IN ALTON HOSPITAL

Wood River- Geo. R. Berry, lifelong resident of the Merritt vicinity, died at 5 p.m., Saturday (June 6, 1949) at Memorial hospital in Alton. He was 90 years of age.
Born at Merritt, Oct. 8, 1859, Mr. Berry was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Violet Berry. A farmer, he married Miss Louisa Rausch on Aug. 26, 1893, in Beardstown. She died April 19, 1911.
For the past two years he had made his home in Wood River with his son, Carl Berry.
Surviving are five sons, Carl of Wood River, Alex and Worth of San Francisco, George R, Jr., of Los Angeles and Lee of Jacksonville; two daughters, Miss Louise Brammell of Granite City and Mrs. Maria Hawkins of Chicago; seven grandchildren.
He was a member of the Merritt Methodist church, where funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. Rev. M. M. Brewer of Wood River officiated, assisted by Rev. Ralph Jasper of Winchester.
The flowers were cared for by Neta Simpkins, Cecile Simpkins, Marcella Taylor, Wilma Berry, Lois Berry, and Norma Brammell.
Pallbearers were Albert Hawk, John Hurrelbring, Bert Chrisman, Sam Snow, Geo. Hardwick and W. D. Hitt.
Friends and relatives attended the services from Chicago, Alton, Granite City, Wood River, Decatur, Beardstown, White Hall, and Jacksonville.
Burial was in the North Prairie (Gillham) cemetery, north of Winchester.
