Stellrecht, Robert LaVerne "Bob", 81, of Huntington Beach, California, passed away on May 10, 2011 at his home surrounded by family.

Born in Davenport, Iowa on April 18, 1930 to LaVerne and Rachel Stellrecht, he moved with his family to Westminster, California in 1937. Bob worked as a paper boy for the then-Santa Ana Register during World War II, and attended Huntington Beach High School.

During his sophomore year, he met Lucy Bottari and they married in 1951. Bob was drafted into the United States Army that same year, 1951, and saw active duty in the Korean War. He served as a tank commander and received his honorable discharge in 1953, earning two bronze stars and the United Nations Service medal. This medal is the first international award ever created and recognized the multi-national defense forces which participated in the Korean War.

Returning home after the war, Bob worked as a mechanic at a gas station in Santa Ana. He eventually bought that station, the first of many he would own in Orange County, California.

In the early 1960s, Bob began building single-family residential homes in Huntington Beach. He built homes under several partnerships, including Stellrecht and Montgomery, Stellrecht and Bartoli, and, ultimately, the Stellrecht Company with his two sons.

A general contractor and developer for forty-three years, Bob built numerous shopping centers, office buildings, housing tracts and tens of thousands of apartments in Orange County, and neighboring Los Angeles and Riverside Counties.

Bob was a devoted husband to his wife, Lucy; loving father to Robert Stellrecht, Jr., Daniel Stellrecht and Cathy Pavlos, and doting grandfather to Christine Stellrecht, Stephanie Stellrecht, Allison Stellrecht, and Emily Stellrecht.

Funeral Services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar.
