Adolph was born between 12-17 Jan 1856 in Greifswald(e), Province of Pommern, Preußen (Prussia), which today is located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. He emigrated from the Port of Hamburg on 14 Oct 1880, and became a naturalized US citizen on 14 Oct 1886, in the Superior Court of New York County, NY. Adolph and Wilhelmine were married in New York City on 04 Sep 1881.

They moved from New York to San Francisco sometime between Apr 1889 and Sep 1890. He was a professional musician, playing the bassoon and oboe with various orchestras in New York and the San Francisco Bay Area.

The San Francisco Call, pg 23:col 4, 25 Jul 1909 –
"BEETZ – In this City, July 24, 1909, Adolph, dearly beloved husband of Wilhelmina Beetz, loving father of Mrs. W. Schulken and Carl, Margaret, Lena, Hans, Frederick and Florence Beetz and beloved brother of Mrs. R. Vogel of Delmar [sic], Mendocino county [sic], Cal., a native of Griefswald, Germany, aged 53 years 6 months and 7 days."

(update 18 Apr 2017) Surname pronounced "Bates" (as in the Bates Motel of Hitchcock's "Psycho" fame.)
