Dorothy was the daughter of Ray and Mabel Like Powell. At the age of 18, Dorothy married Lorens Tuyman Sr. Their son, Lorens Tuynman Jr., was born and soon there after, Dorothy's husband was, along with his brother, Harold, one of twelve individuals killed in a motor vehicle accident on April 21, 1940, leaving her as a single mom.

Dorothy, in her early 20's decided to head west to California to live with her relatives. There, she met Ed Finch. They were married March 17, 1946 in Las Vegas, NV. In 1961 they moved to Garden Grove from Long Beach, CA. Eventually Ed and Dorothy moved to Westmister where they lived for 32 years. In their retirement years Dorothy's passion was traveling, dining and Bingo. She played bingo anywhere she could. Ed and Dorothy loved to travel in their Ford truck and camper. They traveled over 300,000 miles all over the United States; including a trip to Minnesota every year to visit family and friends.

Dorothy leaves behind her husband of 62 years, one son, Lorens (Agnes) Tuynman, one daughter, Terri (Bob) Pone, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and one brother, Raymond (Beulah) Powell. She was preceded in death by her son, Craig Edward Finch; parents, one brother, Ernest Powell, and one sister, Donna Boever.

Dorothy's cremains were interred at West Selma Cemetery, in Selma, California.
