Lithuanian immigrant, arriving in the U.S. in 1905.* Settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, marrying another Lithuanian immigrant, Alena Švarcunis, his wife of 26 years, in 1912. Six children/12 grandchildren. Longtime resident of McKees Rocks borough, relocating from Carnegie. Citizen of "Russian Lithuania" per his 1918 World War I Draft Registration Card. Born in "Varzu Kaima, Lithuania"—a village north of Vilnius?—per his 1942 World War II Draft Registration Card. First-grade education. Raised his children in the faith of the Catholic Church. Worked the coal mines in his youth, & later the steel mills & railroads. Fitted with a "wooden leg" as a result of a railroad accident. Owned & operated a McKees Rocks grocery store on the ground floor of his three-story Bell Avenue residence during the 1930s-1940s.
