Christian Bodmer former City Assessor for 20 years dies at age 72.

Mr. Bodmer who had the distinction of being the only Assessor in the state to complete 20 successive years service for this community in that capacity, died early yesterday morning, June 6, 1937 at his home 1123 Erie Street, three hours before his old friend and co-worker Frank C. Smith of 1024 Churchill Ave.

Mr. Bodmer, a life long Republican was born in the sixth ward, March 23, 1865 son of the late Christian and Lucy Manthy Bodmer. He was educated in the German Lutheran school and public schools of the city, and learned the trade of Steam Fitter with the Utica Steam Gauge Company, and remained employed with the company until the business moved to Frankfort in 1900. Later he was employed by H.C. Peterson and Co., and Utica State Hospital. He resigned from hospital service in 1911, when he ran for office of Assessor. He retired Dec. 31, 1931 after 20 years as Assessor.

He married Pauline Kuebler in 1885. She died in 1912.

Mr. Bodmer was a member of Faxton Lodge 697 F&A.M, Utica Lodge 33 BPOE, Republican Club and the West Utica Outing Club.

He leaves a brother, Herman, San Jose, Calif., three sisters; Mrs. R.J. Morton, Mrs. E.L Robards, and Mrs. Millie Greenwood, Utica. Four sons; Fred, Charles, William and Harold, Utica; two daughters, Mrs. Louis Tobias, Kew Gardens, and Miss Mabel Bodmer of this city.
