* Jon Torsteinsen Aakre (1874 - 1928)
* Odd Torsteinsen Aakre (1878 - 1939)
* Johannes Torsteinsen Aakre (1881 - 1949)
Torstein's parents sent their three youngest sons, Torstein, Odd and Johannes to emigrate to the United States in 1893, 1895 and 1899 respectively. The reason for doing so was to keep them from being drafted into the Swedish army (Sweden and Norway were a single country until 1905). The eldest son, Jon, remained with his parents to help work the family farm. Torstein later anglicized his name to Thomas T. Akre.
Thomas emigrated to the United States, arriving in 1893, eventually settling in Iowa. On Oct 8, 1907, Thomas married Eva Marie Mathews (1874 - 1950) of Armstrong, Iowa. They had two children:
* Charles Thomas Akre (1909 - 2002)
* Donald E. Akre (1919 - 2005)
Thomas died Oct 23, 1956, just short of his 81st birthday.
