A native of Hatteras, he was the son of the late Luther and Elizabeth Gaskill Peele and the husband of Margaret Willis Peele of the home.
Mr. Peele was a retired captain with the N.C. Department of Transportation, Ferry Division, and a member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Winona P. Burroughs of Raleigh and Mona P. Dickens of Hatteras; two sons: Shanklin F. "Shankie" Peele, Jr. of Hatteras, and Barry W. Peele of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister: Eliza Ballance of Elizabeth City; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were to be held at the Hatteras United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 4 with the Rev. Don Brown and the Rev. Dwight Burrus officiating. Burial was to follow in the Quidley Cemetery in Buxton.
