** Obituary for Elsie T. Bonk submitted by Dave Uphoff **

"Mrs. Wilko Bonk, a resident of Minonk for more than a half century, died yesterday morning at 5:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bert (Katie) Squires, where she had been since the death of her husband, who died on Oct 5, 1922, at the age of 89 years. Mrs. Bonk's age was 87 years, 5 months and 7 days.

Throughout her long life, Mrs. Bonk had been singularly strong and healthy, and it was only lately that the roll of years demanded its toll in waste of body. However, it was only the last few days that her condition became serious.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Squires home tomorrow after noon at 1:30 by Rev. Paul Buchmueller, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Church, and burial will follow at Minonk cemetery.

Elske Syverdina de Boer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Behrendt Jacobs de Boer, was born in Emden, Ostfriesland, Germany, on Sept. 6, 1836. She was reared under the influence of a Christian home and was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran Evangelical faith.

On Feb. 6. 1862, she was united in marriage to Wilko Hindricks Bonk, and the first ten years of their happy 60 years of married life were spent in Germany. The lure of America, the new country, was too much for them as reports came from relatives here. They secured their passports on April 24, 1872, coming at once to America and locating in Minonk, where Mr. Bonk's sister, the late Mrs. J. U. Mingers, and other relatives had preceded them.

During all these years when life in this section was of the hardy, pioneer sort. Mrs. Bonk was the ideal helpmate to her husband, sharing the unusual burdens and duties of the earlier-day type, as well as sharing in the joys.

Nine children came to bless the home, but of these, two died in infancy and three passed on into eternity at a more mature age. The four who survive are Mrs. Fred Abels, Mrs. H. D. Leffers and Mrs. Bert Squires, all of Minonk. and Mrs. Henry Wiechman, of Absher, Montana. There are twenty-four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
