Artis was born in Macon to the late Artis J. Johnson and Opal Smallwood Johnson. He loved music, and woodworking- but above all he was a devoted husband and family man. Artis enjoyed the open road and was a truck driver for many years. He was predeceased by his sons, Kenny Johnson and Benny Johnson.
Artis is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doyce H. Johnson; son, Billy Johnson (Kathy) of Warner Robins; and sister, Peggy Cason of Monroe County. He was a loving "Papa" to his grandchildren, Crystal Thomas (John) of Dublin, Jarrett Lee Johnson of Byron, and Chavohn Upshaw (Andrew) of Ft. Hood, Texas.
