Caroline's parents are believed to be Richard and Mehitable (Root) Howard.

Caroline had four brothers and two sisters.

Her brothers were:
Gen. Volney Erskine Howard - Lawyer; First Attorney General of Texas, U.S. Congressman (2 terms). He turned down a U.S. Supreme Court nomination due to old age. Howard County, Texas is named after him.

Maj. Richard Austin Howard - Surveyor of early Texas; owner of the Alamo for a time. Howard's Well in West Texas is named after him.

Capt. Bainbridge D. Howard - Lawyer in New Orleans.

W. Russell Howard - Lawyer in San Antonio.

Her sisters were:
Diana Howard Bennett - Husband was Thomas Ford Bennett. Mother of five children. Diana died of childbirth complications.

Julia Howard Lombard -Founder of Lombardville, Illinois.

Caroline's first husband was Lyman G. Bellamy (1810 - 1845). They had three sons, Volney, Lyman Jr. and Richard. Volney served on Confederate side while Richard served on Union side during the Civil War. After her sister Diana died in 1857, Caroline married Diana's husband, Thomas Ford Bennett. Caroline and Thomas had no children together.
