LEBANON - Ethel Compton Hess, 91, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, in Russell County Medical Center.
Born Oct. 12, 1910, a daughter of the late Creed Compton and Lydia McGlothlin Compton, she was the widow of Lon B. Hess and a member of Rosedale Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Compton; and two infant brothers.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Louise Hess Breeding and Glenn Breeding of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Shirley B. and husband, Roger Musick, and Irma B. and husband, Jay Nunley, all of Abingdon, Velma B. and husband, Ernest Calhoun, of Orlando, Fla., and Richard and wife, Betty Breeding, of Lebanon; six great-grandchildren, Daniel Musick, Michael Musick, Crystal DeGray, Sierra Rasnake, Jonathan Breeding and Chandra Nunley; two great-great-grandchildren, Syrain DeGray and Molly Musick; one sister, Bertha Auten of Hopewell, Va.; one half-sister, Susie Hess Mitchell of Hopewell; one sister-in-law, Agnes H. Jessee of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family thanks Dr. Duke Holliday, Dr. Brian Easton, Dr. Hughes Melton and the staff and management of Mountain View Retirement Home for the special love and care given to Mrs. Hess.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Virgil Musick and the Rev. Duane Musick officiating. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Breeding, Daniel Musick, Michael Musick, Marty Schlichting and Freddie Garrett. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at the funeral home.
