M. K. Smith Rites Will Be Tuesday

Marion K. Smith, 76, a former president of the Caddo Parish School Board and former state representative for Caddo Parish, died at 6 a.m. Sunday at Physicians and Surgeons Hospital following a short illness.

A practicing attorney in Shreveport for 52 years, Mr. Smith served as inheritance tax collector of Caddo Parish from 1952 to 1956, chairman of the Caddo Draft Board, president of the Shreveport Bar Association and commander of the Lowe-McFarlane American Legion Post.

Mr. Smith had lived in Shreveport since 1904. He was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge and the 40 & 8 Club. He served in both world wars. He was a native of Augusta, Ga. He was in the House from 1922-26.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. J. Frank Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home.

Survivors include his widow; his mother, Mrs. Jasper K. Smith of Shreveport; five brothers, J. Stewart Smith, Walter F. Smith, McNair Smith and Ralph Smith, all of Shreveport, and Jasper K. Smith Jr. of Vivian, and two sisters, Mrs. John W. Ellis and Mrs. Julia Bowen, both of Shreveport.

The family requests any memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
