SHREVEPORT – A prominent retired Building Contractor of Shreveport died at his home at 449 Unadilla St. on Thursday afternoon Jan. 8, 1981 after a lengthy illness, being age 87.

Mr. Smith was born in Augusta, Ga. on Dec. 31, 1893 and was a son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Jasper K. Smith, who was a longtime Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport. Mr. Smith received his early education in the Shreveport public schools and attended Georgia Tech. Mr. Smith was a Building Contractor in Shreveport for more than 50 years and constructed many of the finest homes in Shreveport during his time as a contractor, and was well respected in building circles in Louisiana. Mr. Smith a veteran of World War I, a former member of the Shreveport Lions Club, a Mason, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. Mr. Smith was a well-known Amateur Magician and wrote many books on Card Magic that were published and sold throughout the country.

Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Nancy Smith McBride; two grandchildren, Jefferson McBride and Mary Lois McBride; all of Shreveport; three brothers, Jasper K. Smith, Ralph A. Smith and R. McNair Smith; two sisters, Mrs. John W. Ellis and Mrs. Juilia S. Bowen; all of Shreveport.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning Jan. 10, 1981 at 11:30 a.m. at the Osborn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stanford Parnell, Assistant Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating, with interment in Forest Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John P. Smith, John F. Pabody, Ernest M. Ellington, Jefferson McBride, James Bain, Ross White and Ralph Ellis.
