P.T. Castor, a prominent & respected citizen of Richland Twp, was stricken with death suddenly last Thurs. evening. Mr Castor has a stroke of paralysis several months ago, but recovered & was around again but was not very strong. He seemed as well as usual Thurs. evening & after supper went to the barn to help with the evening chores. AS he was about to return to the house he noticed his favorite horse, "Dick", standing a few rods from the barn & remarking that "Dick" didn't want to be out of doors in the rain went to fetch him. When the men returned to the house Mr. Castor was missed & they went immediately in serach of him, finding him lying near the horse, & life was extinct.
Philip Theophilas Castor was born in Bradford Co, PA, near Wilkesbarre, April 28, 1834, & died in his home in Richland Twp, 8 miles east of Nashua, Dec 4, 1913, aged 79 years, 7 months & 6 days. On July 4, 1859, he was united in marriage to Fannie Hoover at Wilkesbarre, Penn., & to them were born 9 children, 4 sons & 5 daughters; 8 of whom are living & were present at the last sad rites. One son, John Francis, preceded his father in death Dec 7, 1907, at Nashua. Fifty-two years ago last March Philip Castor, with his bride of 2 years, left the old home in Pennsylvania for the west & located on the present farm, building their first home on the very place where the funeral services were held. Some 20 years ago Mr. Castor retired from the farm, but after a residence of 2 years in Nashua, returned to the home farm, the dearest place on earth on which he has lived a life of ease & comfort.
