Clara Baxter was born in Rushville, Mo, November 18, 1862. The daughter of William and Victoria Baxter. She was united in marriage to Cyrus Smith December 12, 1880, to this union were born six children. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1890. She was united in marriage to John A. Barragar in 1895, to this union were born six children.

She united with the church in early life, she was a kind and loving mother and a devoted wife. She departed this life on the 20th of March, 1935 and her body was laid to rest in the Clarinda cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, John Amity Barragar, and her children, Mr. and Mrs. Ella Grover (sic-should be Groner), Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Smith, all of Rushville, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Brann of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Bohart, St. Joseph, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Roy McNutt, Huron, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. John W. Barragar, Huron, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Berringer, Clarinda, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Barragar of Clarinda, Iowa, also survived by 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and a host of friends.

O. D. Gebbie, Gilbert Ridenour, B. Hayes, G. E. Thompson, John Simonton and Harold Smith acted as pallbeares. Funeral services were held Friday at the Walker Funeral Home at Clarinda.
