She started life in Trenton, New Jersey and later her family moved to Philadelphia where her father worked in the printing business.
The Albright sisters from Philadelphia began involvement with the Salvation Army at its earliest beginnings in the United States. Captain Amelia Albright and sister, Anna, are thought to be the first two American–born Army officers. Another sister, Lt. Colonel Josephine Albright, became one of the few female divisional commanders in the country. Her youngest sister, Charlotte Elizabeth (Albright) Buffett went to France, joining her husband as part of Salvation Army, to help suffering US troops in April 1919.
In 1881, Amelia married Lewis Franklin Pertain, who was also an officer in the Salvation Army. Lewis and Amelia had eight children. The 1910 Census, it shows that they also have an adopted 10 year old daughter, Mabel.

2. Charlotte A. Pertain, (1884-1886), did not reach her second birthday.
3. Lewis Franklin Pertain, (1885–1966), m. Susan M. Cole (had three children).

After her husband's death in 1922, Amelia lived for a time in Plainfield, New Jersey with her son Charles (City Directory, 1928, 202 Harrison Ave.). Charles was working as a bank clerk.
By 1935, she moved to a rooming house in New York (1940 census), probably near her son Lewis, who remained in New York (Brooklyn) as well.
In her last years, Amelia was living with her son Charles, and his family in Westfield, New Jersey.
Amelia lived to the age of 94, passing away in 1949.
