Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bartling's Funeral Home for Samuel Sheldon Carman, 89, who died at the Brookings County Convalescent Home August 31 following an illness of one and one-half years. Rev. Richard Pettinger officiated with internment at the Aurora cemetery.

Pallbearer were Chris Lynch, Alvin Kjenslee, Harry Bailey, Anton Kjos, Selmer Nannastad and Allen Warner.

Mr. Carman was born March 24, 1873 and came to South Dakota in 1901. He had lived in the Brookings County area since coming to the state.

He was married March 24, 1897. His wife died October 25, 1957 and a son died in infancy.

Survivors include nine children, Ole of St. Louis, Missouri; George of Maywood, California; Robert of Denver, Colorado; Angeline and Mrs. C. A. (Irene) Kjenslee of Brookings; Mrs. Esther Dibben of Flandreau; Joe of Sioux Falls; Mrs. Harold (Ethel) Varns of Flandreau and Mrs. Ray (Mary) Justus of Phoenix, Arizona; twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren.
