Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 26, 1946.

James served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-24J #42-64104, 24th Combat Mapping Squadron, 8th Photographic Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Wayne County, Michigan prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 4, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office machine operator and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-64104 took off, with a crew of 5 & 8 passengers, from Gushkara AAF Base, India on a fuel & ferrying mission to Sookerating Airdrome, Assam. After safely arriving at Sookerating & the fuel was removed & the passengers disembarked they took off, empty except for the 5 crew members, to return to Gushkara. They were not seen nor heard from again.

James was declared "Missing In Action" on this flight during the war.
