Joshua served as a Sergeant & Gunner on B-24D #42-40752, 72nd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Chester County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 3, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in construction and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24D #42-40752 took off, with a crew of 10 and other B-24's, from Torokina Airfield, Bougainville Province, Papua New Guinea on a strike mission over Green Island, Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia.

Over the target the B-24 formation was attacked by approximately 30 to 40 Japanese aircraft. B-24D #42-40752 was last seen going into a cloud cover with Japanese aircraft in pursuit. They were not seen nor heard from again. The entire crew was lost.

Joshua was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Joshua also has a "Cenotaph" in the Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, West Chester, Pennsylvania.

Joshua Benjamn Walton was born in December 25, 1921 to Clifton and Eleanor Walton. He was the second youngest of four children. Joshua enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After basic training and advanced training, he was assigned as a gunner to serve with the 72nd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Groups (Heavy). His Squadron flew bombing missions from Guadalcanal, and later from New Georgia Island. In February 1944 he was listed as Missing In Action and on January 27, 1946, Sergeant Joshua B. Walton was declared deceased. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart and is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing in Action at Manila American Cemetery at Fort Bonifacio. There is a cenotaph in Grove Methodist Church Cemetery on his mother's grave marker.
