Husband of Elsie Irene Rupracht who resided in Brisbane, California.

Ralph served as a Machinist's Mate Second Class, U.S.S. Allen M. Sumner (DD-692), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in California prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Navy on November 11, 1942 in Los Angeles, California.

U.S.S. Allen M. Sumner was in the Lingayen Gulf to support minesweeping operations. At about noon they came under attack by Japanese kamikazes. One of the kamikazes crashed into the Sumner near the after stack and after torpedo mount.

The Sumner lost 14 men Killed or Missing In Action and 19 injured of which two later died of their wounds.

Ralph was one of the 14 crewman "Killed In Action" in this attack during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Ralph was buried at sea.

On his draft card he gives his name as John Ralph Rupracht but it must be him since has same wife listed. Since his father's name was John, Ralph may have gone by his middle name.
His father's name was John. The family were farmers in New York. In the 1930 census mother is not listed. He had a sister Anna. At this time Ralph is 24 and his wife Elsie who is living there too is 25.

His wife Elsie died the next year in San Francisco in September 6th 1946, possibly of despondency. She was 42. -edited from Redwood City Tribune , Redwood City California Friday Sept 6th 1946 Front page
