Robert served as a First Lieutenant on B-26C (#42-107690), 558th Bomber Squadron, 387th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Tulsa County, Oklahoma prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 26, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-26 was hit by enemy flak and crashed northwest of Paris during the war. He was was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.
