Tail Gunner aboard B-24M Liberator #44-50743. Shot down by direct enemy flak hit at 26,000 feet over the target of the railroad marshaling yards at Ora Auer, Brenner Pass, Bronzolo, Italy.
The four motored airplane was struck in the bomb bays and exploded and disintegrated just moments before target 'bombs away.'
Only two of the crew members survived when they were blown free and parachuted to ground, where they were immediately captured and held until liberated.
