Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until April 16, 1946, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Son of Aurore C. Dutil who resided in Biddeford, Maine.

Leo served as a Corporal & Gunner on B-29 #42-24821, 398th Bomber Squadron, 504th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in York County, Maine prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on June 21, 1943 in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Leo was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-29 was hit by enemy flak and crashed in the sea near Kanagwa during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Service # 31323378

The entire crew perished during this flight.
