George served as a Corporal & Radar Operator on B-29 # 42-24781, 483rd Bomber Squadron, 505th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in St. Louis, Missouri prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a Private on October 15, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Stock clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-29 # 42-24781 took off, with a crew of "11" & "1" passenger, from the Northern Marianas Islands on a training mission. Their #2 engine and wing caught fire for an unknown reason. The wing eventually fell off and they crashed into the sea. "1" member of the crew was able to bail out ( see below ) and the other "10" perished in the crash.

George was declared "Missing In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" in this crash during the war.
