Edmund was the husband of Martha Jane (Bernard) McVay (1850-1896). They were married on June 21, 1868 and they had twelve children together including: Charles, Hattie, Frank, Bert, Kathryn, Alan, Newton, Mary, William, Grace, Augusta and John McVay. Edmund was the son of Christopher Columbus McVay and Catherine (West) McVay.

DISCREPANCIES in spelling of both given name and surname: The tombstone identifies him as Edmund McVay, but the death certificate, for which is son Bert was the informant, identifies him as Edmond McVey.

Please note: The original spelling of the surname of this McVay family in the United States was with the spelling "McVay," however some of the family members starting using the spelling "McVey."
