Lewis Mitchell was the son of Robert Harvey and Mary [Witt] Mitchell. The former was born in Pennsylvania and the latter in Bedford Co., VA as was the son.
Lewis migrated to Meigs Co., OH and met and married Elizabeth Reeves Westfall Nov. 02 1842. Five of their 14 children were born in Scipio Twp., Meigs Co. and the next nine were born in Persifer Twp., Knox Co., IL, where Lewis and Elizabeth were to spend the rest of their lives.
