Mrs. Sarah Thomas died at her home, two miles east of Oquawka Jan. 29, aged 80 years. She was born in Kentucky, the daughter of Andrew and Catherine Holmes Figg. She was united in marriage with James M. Thomas October 5, 1845, and with her husband came to Henderson county, Illinois in 1849, where she had lived up to the time of her death.

Nine children were left to mourn her death - Lottie Martin, Kate Chapin, Crave, Henry, and Halleck Thomas of Oquawka; Joseph Thomas of Burlington, Alice Bently and James Thomas of Kansas and Susan Figg of Chicago. Deceased also leaves two brothers and two sisters - Robert Figg of Washington, D. C., and William Figg of Red Oak, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Crow of Hiattville, (?)an (Kansas?), and Mrs. Martha Wyckoff, of Rivertown, Iowa.

Funeral services were held in the M. E. church on February 2nd at 3 o'clock by Rev. Charles Fitz Henry and the remains were laid to rest in the Oquawka cemetery.

NOTE - Sarah's brother, Robert, died in Washington, D.C. on 1 February 1904, 3 days after Sarah. A veteran of the Civil War from Oquawka, he was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
