Per notes from Lena Clay Young:
Stewart Adrian Clay was born in Palo Pinto County, Texas on September 8, 1915. He was the 12th child born to Thomas Montgomery and Katie Clay. We were living on the Costello place. I remember it because it had a big barn with a loft and we loved to play up there. He was a precious child and of course, being the baby, we older children adored him.
He was 2 years old when the family moved to Clarendon, Texas and only 2 1/2 years old when Mother died. We all babied him and I, being the oldest daughter, took over the role of motherhood for Stewart. I was 19 years old when Mother died.
We had some apple trees(on the farm Dad bought in Collingsworth County) and had told the children they should not eat the apples while they were green, but being a five year old, Stewart did just that. He got very sick and had diarrhea. By the time we got him to a doctor, it was too late. He died August 16, 1920 just before he became 5 years old.
He was buried in the Clarendon, Texas cemetery next to his mother.
