William D. Barger, 62, prominent Sullivan County farmer, died at his home, Hill Crest near Kingsport, at 9:15 o'clock last night. He had been in ill health for several months, but his death was unexpected as he had not been confined to his home. A short funeral service will be held at the home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, followed byservices at the Cassidy Church at Indian Springs. Interment will be made in the Gunnings Cemetery. Funeral services for William D. Barger, 62, prominent Sullivan County farmer who died at 9:15 o'clock Sunday night at his home at Hillcrest, near Kingsport, will be conducted this afternoon, interment to follow in Gunnings Cemetery. Brief services will be conducted at the late residence at 2 p.m., to be followed by services at the Cassidy Church at Indian Springs. The Revs. J. W. Shuey, W. D. Wise and T. L. Williams will officiate. Pallbearers: O. F. Shipley, J. F. Moore, George Bradley, D. W. Black, Jesse Harr, John B. Nail, H. C. Brooks and J. W. Dickson. Honorary pallbearers and flower bearers will be selected from among neighbors and friends. Mr. Barger had been in declining health for several months but his death was unexpected, as he had not been confined to his home. Mr. Barger was born near Indian Springs and spent his entire life in Sullivan County. He was the son of the late George W. and Amanda Roller Barger, prominent Sullivan County residents. He was a member of the New Haven Lutheran Church and took an active part in Christian activities. Surviving are his widow, the former Edna Fleenor of Indian Springs, and nine children: Mrs. Earl Waterman of Indian Springs, and Mrs. Kirk Steadman, Mrs. C. H. Bostic, Mrs. Olin Pierce, Miss Anna Barger, Alvin, George, Charles and Robert Barger, all of Kingsport. Other survivors include five brothers: J. T. Barger, J. W. Barger, C. H. Barger and R. L. Barger of Indian Springs, and D. A. Barger of Bristol; one sister, Miss Cordia Barger of Indian Springs; twenty grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. BRISTOL HERALD-COURIER, 22 Sept. 1936.
