SPANISH INFLUENZA IS FATAL TO LOCAL SOLDIER

Roy Porter of Fairview Dies in New Jersey with the Dreaded Spanish Influenza

Once more Star Valley mourns over the death of one of her noble sons who had gone forth to fight the great battle of freedom. This time LeRoy Porter of Fairview made the supreme sacrifice, he being a victims of Spanish Influenza, while stationed at a camp in New Jersey, preparatory to sailing for France. This word was telephoned to the valley yesterday from his parents who are now living in Montpelier.
No news of his death could be obtained only to the effect that he had been a victim of this new disease that is ravaging many of the army camps. He had been in the hospital previous to his contracting the sickness that resulted in his death.
LeRoy Porter left the valley in June in company with a number of other Star Valley boys and was sent from Kemmerer to Logan, Utah, where he received training as an auto mechanic. About six weeks ago he was transferred from Logan and was being assigned for over seas duty when he was taken to the hospital in New Jersey. He was married on the 5th of last June to Miss Nellie Parker of Lanark, Idaho.
